Pomerol is a respected red-wine appellation in Bordeaux. It stands apart from other Bordeaux appellations, and not only because of the dominance of Merlot here – very few Pomerol wines contain any significant quantity of Cabernet The mostly small-sized producers in this area of about 7.60 km 2 (2.93 sq mi) produce red wines. As in the neighbouring appellation of Saint-Émilion, the predominant grape variety is Merlot, often with Cabernet Franc and smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon. Unlike other Bordeaux regions, Pomerol has no official wine ranking or classification. Château Lafleur is a Bordeaux wine from the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard is located on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in the commune of Pomerol in the Gironde department.

Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also included in Pomerol’s blended red wines. The wines of Pomerol are lush and rich, and generally not as tannic as the Cabernet-based wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
